About Mark Vegter

Mark Vegter has been involved in advising and higher education administration for over 29 years. His latest position was Assistant to the Chair for the Department of English at Illinois State University. There he coordinated the advising, recruitment and enrollment management of the undergraduate majors and and course scheduling for the Department. His service includes over 27 presentations or co-presentations at state, regional and national conferences since 2001 encompassing such organizations as: NACADA (National Association of Academic Advisors), ILACADA (Illinois Association of Academic Advisors), ILCEIA (Illinois Cooperative Education and Internship Association), (Illinois Academic Advisor Association). He was an elected member and Chair of Academic Advisor Council of Illinois State University from 2007 to 2010 and facilitated the organization’s Allied membership with NACADA. He was a national Commission Chair in NACADA from 2008 to 2010. Mark was the 2011 NACADA Region V Conference Chair and published an article in Academic Advising Today on how the practices of advising as teaching and career development blend together in the English Department at Illinois State. Honors include: Co-recipient of the 2007 Team Excellence Award from Illinois State University – co planning a one day academic advising and career counseling conference Co-authoring a Region V NACADA grant Recipient of the 2009 Herb Sanders Award for Outstanding Advising at Illinois State Recipient of the 2009 Partners in Diversity Award at the 21st annual Commitment to Diversity Recognition Ceremony sponsored by the division of Student Affairs Recipient of the 2011 Certificate of Merit in recognition of Outstanding Advising by the National Academic Advising Association A 2011 inductee of the Golden Key International Honor Society for his service and leadership in the advancement of Academic Advising. Recipient of the 2013 Administrative Professional Outstanding Service Award at Illinois State University.
