About Mark Wheadon
After graduating from Portsmouth Polytechnic (as it was then) in 1984 I was employed by ITL as a Pascal programmer. After a couple of years they closed the office and so I moved to Pacific Associates Ltd, an IBM AS/400 startup based in Basingstoke. I enjoyed various roles at Pacific including programming in CL, RPG, C/400, PL/1. At one point I found myself in charge of all the machines (AS/400s) and networks. Pacific were also getting into scanning and document management and I was pulled into that. Not really suited to project work I started to play around with low level APIs for reading the dumb terminal screen (5250) and realised that it would be possible, without coding, to associate scanned images with line of business apps. We made that into product called ImageView. In 1995 the ImageView team became a new company, Pacific Solutions (PacSol). We are still going strong! My coding these days is mostly in Java. Everyday is a school day and there is always new things to learn and get to grips with.
