Background
About Mark Whittaker
Began my freelance writing and journalism career in 1995. After a brief run doing film production in San Francisco, I segued into music journalism for several magazines and publications which eventually led to a freelance career during the "dot com" era in the Bay Area. Here I acted as a copy writer, copy editor, content writer and digital journalist for advertising and marketing firms as well as several start-up companies. When the "dot bomb" hit in I focused back onto journalism and at times was contributing to over a dozen sites, newspapers and magazines at once. Moving to Tucson, AZ in 2006 put a halt on my music journalism but falling in love with the culinary culture of southern Arizona, I started my own food focused blog, The Tucson Homeskillet, which is now a full fledged website. In 2015, based on the merits of my site, the Tucson Weekly hired me as their food writer, which lasted until 2020 when COVID hit and most bars and restaurants shut their doors, either temporarily or permanently. After a little break, I reformed and updated my website and took a position with Gallery of Food, a new gourmet market/catering/to-go concept here in Tucson as their social media manager and online marketing director. Currently the position is part-time so I am able to easily take on a freelance/off site/part time position as a content and features writer and editor. For links to my work and portfolio, please contact me. Thank you.
