Background
About Mark Wieringa
Since the beginning of my professional career I’ve always been very interested in the way computers can help us to achieve a better design process and reach our design goals. Looking for new ways of using design technologies: Improving workflows, interoperability, standards, new modelling tools and the leveraging BIM data. During my architectural studies at the TU Delft I was an assistant for the chair of Design Informatics. I worked on computational- and blob-design. I modelled the first production twist facade for Alcoa. In 2004 I started using Revit. I've been teaching Building Technology as a guest tutor and lecturer at the TU Delft. At present I’m an Architect and the BIM-Manager/Coordinator for the architecture firm Cepezed where I focus on the implementation of BIM. I provide the company standards, training, customizations, plug-inn development and devising effective workflows and practices. I actively work on most BIM projects, setting it up, modelling complex elements and aligning with other disciplines. I assist and advise project managers and teams with protocols, contracts and setting achievable goals. I assess the Revit capabilities of project members and I’m the internal helpdesk. In 2012 I became vice chairman of the Dutch Revit User Group(RevitGG). Interim chairing the RevitGG for one year I focused on growth, structure and international cooperation. I co-initiated and I co-author the Dutch Revit Standards(DRS) with Martijn de Riet. The DRS was presented in 2013 featuring IFC-Interoperability, version 2.0 focuses on MEP. The DRS has much international attention. In 2011 I’ve come into contact with the Revit Technology Conference(RTC). First being a speaker at the Australasian event, now I’m part of the European committee. In 2013 we organised the inaugural RTC Europe in Delft bringing together the best Revit experts, BIM and industry leaders from Europe and the rest of the world. The conference featured a lively debate about Revit/BIM Standards.
