About Mark Wittens

My very first programming experience was at around age 11 with QBasic on my father's home computer. A blazingly fast 486 processor with no less than 8MB RAM and a huge 15" SVGA monitor. A lot of years, experience and education later my first professional working experience was in 2001, as a software engineer in Delphi 5.Not only the company, but also the type of work wasn't all that. So a few years later I made the switch to web development in 2007. Since then I have been developing web applications and websites in PHP but I also learned a bit of.NET and JAVA as part of the study I followed back then. In 2009 I switched companies and have mainly been working with Drupal (from version 6 back then, to version 10 right now). In this period I started doing both front-end as well as back-end work which I'm still doing today and I must say I really like the diversity of it. Lately I have been polishing up my skills by doing some self education in my spare time, learning the ins and outs of using the React library, NextJS and Firebase. I also like to play around with Arduino boards and some electrical components, the final step to close the gap between software and hardware. This has been, and still is, an inspiring experience and a lot of fun to do. I love being a part of a small team and always like to leave my mark on projects by not only looking at the technical challenges but also by thinking about user experience and how to give customers what they actually need instead of what they initially asked for.
