Background

About Mark Xerri

I’m a Chartered Principal Rail Engineer with over 16 years of experience shaping some of Australia’s most significant rail and transport projects. My work spans the full lifecycle, from early feasibility and strategic planning to detailed design and operations across passenger, freight, light rail and high speed rail systems.I’m passionate about finding “best-for-project” solutions that balance technical rigour, operational performance, and community benefit. Over my career, I’ve led technical investigations, corridor studies and network strategies, often bringing together multidisciplinary teams to solve complex challenges. Some career highlights include leading the feasibility design for three NSW Fast Rail studies (Sydney to Newcastle, Sydney to Bomaderry and Sydney to Central West), providing technical direction as Newcastle Section Design Lead for the Sydney to Newcastle High Speed Rail project, and guiding freight network planning for the Western Sydney Freight Line. Colleagues and clients know me for my collaborative approach, clear communication, and ability to turn technical complexity into practical solutions, and I most enjoy working at the intersection of engineering, planning, and strategy.
