Background
About Markel Williams
I have two seasons of experience with womens basketball 2016-2017 at Delgado community college and 2019-2020 at Talladega College. I played basketball myself at Delgado 2014-2016 didn’t get recruited so I went into coach but still stayed in shape and worked out. Then I got a chance to play again when the coach at Talladega at the time took me in as a favor from one of my mentors. I played 2018-2019 at EWC because the coach left so I did as well. I hit life when I was out in Jacksonville at EWC and I learned a lot from that experience. I returned to Talladega because that’s where I felt most at home and I was just focused on working and making money. I felt I was done with basketball so 2019 spring semester I worked at our school bookstore, domino’s pizza and at the time I was always in the gym early in the morning so I use to workout some of the womens basketball players. Right before the season started I had a talk with The current womens head coach coach Herod and another job to help with my rent. Instead he gave me a chance to be on board with the coaching staff because of what he seen me do in the mornings. We go on the win the conference 14-0 and unfortunately lost in the conference tournament championship. After the 2020 season I didn’t know what I was gonna do I had on year of eligibility left and coach k knew that so he talk to coach Wright who is now the head mens basketball coach. It felt like everything was coming back full circle. Coach took coach k’s word and took me on as a player after I didn’t think I was gonna play again. It was the best decision of my life coach Wright taught me so much not only how to really play defense but to get pass hard and don’t ask questions don’t have excuses just do your job. We built a great relationship and went on to win the GCAC Mens regular season conference 6-0 and unfortunately lost in the conference tournament championship. In between 2018 and now I learned a lot and made my mind up that I want my career or profession to be around basketball. Coaching, skills specialist, equipment management game day operations I’ve done it all
