About Markisha Russell

As a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher, I have spent over 12 years empowering students with diverse learning needs. I specialize in creating inclusive, structured, and engaging learning environments that support each child's unique potential. My expertise includes Orton-Gillingham-based instruction, and I am an IMSE Orton-Gillingham Certified Educator. I integrate multisensory strategies to enhance literacy skills, making reading accessible and engaging for all students, including those with dyslexia and other learning differences. I also have experience working with non-verbal students, including those using AAC devices and gestalt language processors. Beyond academics, I am committed to fostering independence, confidence, and a love for learning in my students. I continuously adapt and refine my teaching methods based on data-driven strategies, ensuring my students receive the individualized support they need. In addition to my work in education, I am a lifelong learner. I hold a Master of Science in Special Education and have earned my KPEERI certification, demonstrating my commitment to evidence-based interventions. Advocacy is at the heart of my work, both in the classroom and beyond. As the parent of an autistic son graduating high school this year, I bring both professional expertise and personal insight into the challenges and triumphs of navigating special education. I am always eager to collaborate with fellow educators, specialists, and advocates to create meaningful change in the field of special education.
