About Markku Suomela

Strengths One of my absolute strength is human interaction. I have an ability to fast create perception of new people and then adjust my own actions accordingly. Integrity and loyalty are in top priority for me. I have good negotiation skills especially in finding common understanding to serve desired end state. I am eager to learn new things and extremely devoted to reach the goal I have set. Military flight training I am a well experienced military flight instructor. I have worked in wide variety of tasks regarding basic and advanced flight training including also flight instructor training and test pilot training. These tasks consist of both classroom training and instructing in aircraft as well as planning of training. In addition to that during my Airforce career I have been involved in creating/developing and also approving flight syllabuses. Flight testing I have worked over ten years in Military Flight Test environment in different positions from test pilot to Chief of Flight Test Center in Finnish Airforce. My experience in this context consists of test planning, flight tests and reporting but also leading all flight test activities. These tasks in addition with my experience in Military Aviation Authority give me also a fundamental understanding regarding Military Airworthiness Management System. Military Aviation Authority I master different sectors of aviation authority. I have worked over ten years in Finnish Military Aviation Authority (FIMAA) in which I have been responsible for Flight and Base Operation. One particular part of that has been cooperation with national civil aviation authority and different ministries i.a. Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Transport with a focus in civil-military coordination e.g. Airspace management and regulatory work including lawmaking process regarding Finnish Aviation Act. Experience in international context I am used to work in international environment. I have participated in several European working groups during recent years in which the main focus has been in civil-military coordination in aviation. Along with being a member of working group I also have successfully worked as a chairman of the group. As an example of organizations I have worked in are Eurocontrol, European Defence Agency (EDA) and North European Airspace Block (NEFAB). Leadership and management I am trained and well experienced leader. I have 20 years’ experience in leadership in several positions. That includes leading people as a superior and also leading working groups and projects.
