About Markku Yli-Halla

Experienced Professor with a demonstrated history of working in the research industry. Skilled in Scientific Writing, Soil Sampling, Science, Environmental Science, and Research. Strong education professional with a Doctor's and Master's degrees focused in Agriccultural Chemistry and Physics from University of Helsinki. My research concentrates on acid sulfate soils, particularly the effect of water management on the release of acidity and behavior of metals. The sites include coastal acid sulfate soils and a former peat mining area where oxidation of black schists is the source of acidity. Other topics include soil classification according to the World Reference Base (WRB) system and U.S. Soil Taxonomy. I am involved in updating the soil map of Finland. I am also involved in projects on soil phosphorus (P). These include a project on long-term P fertilization and on processes of P in the sediment of a constructed wetland with the aim of finding out what to do with the dredged sediment material. I have also some activity on sustainable use of tropical soils in Ethiopia.
