About Marko Boyko

If I could have a one-on-one conversation with God, one thing I’d like to see is how much plastic I have used in this lifetime. From milk cartons, ramen packages, plastic utensils, and the endless list of products I have used and discarded without thought - I know there would be a mountain of trash before my eyes, and I am only one person. The pressing issues of environmental degradation and unsustainable business practices have been ingrained into the masses' psyches for decades. Yet, these issues seem to be a million miles away at any moment; a situation in which our only course of action is to wait for our leaders to act on our behalf to prevent catastrophe. Action, however, does not require permission. As an applied physics major at Binghamton University, I look forward to learning how to apply fundamental scientific understanding to address one of the most pressing issues of our time. I am currently involved in the first-year research immersion program at Binghamton as a member of the clean energy research track. Our team seeks to develop more efficient solar panels by investigating additive engineering in hybrid organic/inorganic perovskites. By utilizing my skills in understanding physical systems, I can aid in reducing the ecological impact of our daily lives, and that mountain of trash at the end of my life could be a little bit smaller.
