About Marko Halonen

I am a passionate teacher and researcher with a lot of experience from many different fields and institutions. I recently published a book about history of the Persian Gulf region, where I have also lived (Doha 2019-2020). I have also done a lot of research on textual criticism and stemmatology. I currently work at Finland International School Maldives, teaching History, Sociology and Global perspectives (Cambridge IGCSE) and history, social studies and geography (Finnish curriculum). I worked 2020-2022 as an editor-in-chief in developing a digital learning environment for history at the City of Helsinki Executive Office. Before that, I worked as a teacher and member of board at Ressun lukio IB World School. I have a PhD in history from the University of Helsinki and teacher qualification for middle and high school in history and social sciences, and the qualification for a school principal (Opetushallinnon tutkinto). I have also served many years as an examiner for the IBO. My voluntary work experience includes the Scout movement, Red Cross, Lions, BirdLife and WWF. Both in Scouts and at the Red Cross I have been in leadership positions. I am a lieutenant (first class) in reserve. I have a growth mindset, and I am always learning more about countries, their cultures, languages and history.
