About Markus Engel

I'm very happy that back in 2017 I decided to give in to my creative, self-fulfilling voice and pursue the path of product design right after I finished my technical studies at RWTH Aachen. Many projects and countless hours in the design studio later, I was able to achieve my first success as a product designer. My thesis project was convincing and has been part of the product portfolio of Georg Bechter Licht GmbH since 2020. Within my work I value and focus on quality, functionality and usability. I very much enjoy working with great people on building new and innovative products and thereby create benefit. In 2017 I co-founded "rooem."- an e-commerce furniture company. The main focus is on modular industrial style furnishings which are offered to B2C and B2B customers for purchasing online. A 7-digit turnover was achieved already in the third year. Today a competent team and more than orders are among the greatest successes. Until the middle of this year I was employed as Chief Product Officer and Head of Customer Service. My tasks were the overall management of the product department as well as the development and coordination of the customer service department. The proximity to both the customer and the product enabled me to immediately incorporate feedback and thus ensure rapid product development. In this interface position, I particularly enjoyed the working and communicating with and between the various departments. As Venture Architect at Brainergy Park Jülich, I'm now part of a very innovative and technology-driven environment in the energy and digitalisation field. Together with Economy, R&D and Startups we face the local challenges of todays and future energy transitions. How we're doing that? We bring new innovations and ideas to life and create synergies through knowledge and technology transfer.
