About Markus Jaskari

As an ecologist my greatest interest lies in biodiversity, nature conservation, botany, protected species surveys, and in habitat management, restoration and recreation. While working as an Ecologist/Botanist I have carried out Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and the following protected species surveys: badger, barn owl, bat, great crested newt (GCN), hazel dormouse, and reptile. I have written reports for PEAs and protected species surveys and prepared tender documents for clients. I am experienced in GCN and reptile translocations and ecological watching briefs. In my private time I have done a wide range of international voluntary work in England, Finland, Honduras and Thailand. This includes working as a research assistant in the rainforest and coral reefs and as a wildlife ranger managing heathland habitats in a National Nature Reserve. I have been growing trees from locally collected seeds, managing and restoring wildlife habitats (woodland and meadows) and controlling non-native invasive species. I have participated in community projects, worked in an elephant and wildlife sanctuary and carried out a wide range of surveys for flora and fauna. I have Natural England GCN Level 1 (Class Licence) and I am currently working towards a hazel dormouse licence. I am member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). In addition to my career as a Consultant Ecologist I have worked several years as an Intensive Care Nurse in England, Holland and Finland.
