About Markus Johansson

After receiving domestic skipper competence I made a lot of gigs as pilot boat operator and as master on domestic passenger ferries. Since I reached my deck officer license until 2023 I spent my days mostly on Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax vessels as 2nd mate and after receiving Chief mate license as Chief mate. I hold experience from Finnish icebreakers as well. Since beginning of 2024 I have been serving in the expedition industry, first on a Swedish expedition ship Freya as Chief mate and Master. As from beginning of 2025 on Hurtigruten Expeditions as 2nd mate. The job on Freya provided really close encounters, both with guests and wildlife as the ship was relatively small and could access the most remote places and takes only 12 guests. Freya operated in the arctic. The job in Hurtigruten provides and requires other things such as different propulsion method. The safety aspects are also higher as the vessel can take more than 500 guests. The vessel operates worldvide but mostly in polar areas. I'm holding a Finnish Master unlimited license together with advance polar code license.
