His passion lies in improving healthcare, with a special focus on the heart of it all: the interaction between patient and healthcare professional. At the core of this interaction is information — because better knowledge leads to more control, better understanding, and more informed choices. Digital tools and the internet support this (r)evolution in both the doctor-patient relationship and the practice of medicine. But always with a clear principle: technology is a tool, not the goal. The true aim is quality improvement — for both patient and doctor. Empowerment through clarity. This vision is reflected in the projects he leads and supports. He is the founder of – since 2008 the largest non-profit, accredited health information database in the Netherlands. He also co-founded a platform that makes personalized digital patient information the new normal — through text, video, and images, tailored to each patient’s situation. Easy to use, fully integratable with portals, websites, and patient folders — powered by the trusted BetrouwbareBron content. The “Zorg voor Tinnitus” (Care for Tinnitus) program offers a structured, collaborative care pathway for tinnitus patients. ENT specialists at Flevoziekenhuis, together with Kentalis and mental health services, use validated questionnaires for triage and provide personalized diagnostics and follow-up. In 2005, he initiated the Dutch ENT EHR terminology group, which laid the foundation for standardized medical language in electronic health records. This resulted in the first uniform medical terminology set officially recognized by a Dutch medical specialty society: the NL-KNO Terminology Set 1.0, published in 2009.
