About Marleah Dean Kruzel

My mission is to empower patients to better engage with clinicians, clinicians to better communicate with patients, and academics to better translate research findings. I am an associate professor in Health Communication at the University of South Florida, a collaborator member in the Health Outcomes & Behavior Program at the Moffitt Cancer Center, and a member of the Tampa General Cancer Institute. My research investigates how communication can improve health outcomes among different healthcare stakeholders. I am an expert on the health experiences and decisions of previvors-individuals with inherited gene mutations who have not been diagnosed with cancer. As a BRCA2-positive previvor myself, I am committed to patient engagement and translating research into practice. To that end, I participated in the CDC's "Bring Your Brave" social media campaign designed to educate and inspire young women regarding breast cancer risk and served as a social media ambassador for the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
