About Marlyn Carrillo

Marlyn Carrillo is a first-generation fronteriza from El Paso, TX, with a background in journalism, public affairs, and digital media strategy. She currently serves as Marketing Director at Athenian Group, where she leads branding, digital strategy, and community engagement. Marlyn was recently reappointed to the City of San Diego Commission on the Status of Women by Mayor Todd Gloria. Her previous roles include Communications Director at the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and Press Secretary for the U.S. House of Representatives, where she directed digital platforms, virtual programming, and bilingual communications. A longtime advocate for immigrant and women’s rights, Marlyn also helped establish the Latinx Membership Specialist role at Girl Scouts, creating national resources and training that reached over 100 councils. She is the founder of a women’s art collective with members across 20+ cities and remains deeply engaged in civic and cultural advocacy.
