About Marnie Yanacheak

As I enter my second decade as a professional educator in the public school system I have taken as many opportunities as possible to improve my skills and learn about advancements in the education field. I attend conferences (National Association for Bilingual Education, Colorado Head Start Association), workshops, and trainings. I coteach and collaborate with other educators. I love to work with the parents of my students to improve their skills in helping their children to reach their potential (including facilitating the Incredible Years Parent Program). I actively advocate for the needs of our underserved populations including dual language learners, families with fewer resources, and those with special needs. I share the information that I learn through my pursuits with my colleagues and have been trained by the Colorado Department of Education in the English Language Learners with Exceptional Needs (ELLEN) project. I am passionate as an advocate of multilingualism and bilingual education. I am raising my own daughter to be bilingual and to learn and understand what her own background and heritage has to offer our diverse society. I love teaching Spanish to my after school groups and summer Spanish Camps. It is always amazing to see each child progress as they grow and learn. This is my goal to have a positive impact on my students' learning and to be a lifelong learner myself. In the future I plan to pursue my doctorate in education with an emphasis on dual language learners and the practices and programs that serve them. I will also work towards becoming a principal within the next ten to fifteen years I am open to opportunities for travel, learning, and advocacy throughout the world.
