About Marshall Bates

Most people look at a spreadsheet and see rows of numbers. I see a puzzle that needs solving. My career has moved from rig floors in the Bakken to building econometric models for $1B acquisitions with a singular focus: find the signal before the rest of the market catches up.The predictive game is the draw for me. I lean on technical integrity and stand by the data.My background bridges the gap between the physical reality of upstream operations and the strategic world of global supply and demand. In a volatile market, having a mapmaker who understands the underlying architecture is often the difference between a missed opportunity and a massive recovery. Some of the milestones I’m most proud of include: Mapped 1 Bcf/d supply loss to anchor a $3.5B recovery effort. Built heavily-used SQL Well Watcher tool that helped with $50M exit. Determined NPV and Risk for a $1B Barnett Shale acquisition. Negotiated midstream strategy to save $300K annually in perpetuity. Forecasted regional drilling trends to 2035 for an executive readership.Connecting with others navigating the complexities of the energy transition or seeking a deeper look at commodity fundamentals is always a priority.
