About Marshall Brown

A dynamic and innovative engineering professional with over 11 years experience with the Canadian Armed Forces as a Marine Engineer. Currently, working with Atlantic Towing as Chief Engineer. I possess a Marine Engineer Technician Diploma from Marine Institute, and a COC 3rd Class Engineer, Motorship Certification from Transport Canada. I supervise the daily operations of a propulsion plant and mentor junior staff, while maintaining a safe engineering watch. In this role, I liaise with contractors, and utilize managerial software such as NSE (NS5), to support preventative and corrective maintenance operations. Throughout my career, I have worked on various ships, such as: Halifax Class Frigates, Harry DeWolf Class Arctic, and Offshore Vessels. I have participated in the preparation of major refits, commissioned post refits, as well, day-to-day sailing onboard. Projects included testing and trial inspections, that went along with the refits, main engine power trials with gas turbines and cruise diesels, including support systems. Routine and corrective maintenance checks were completed to ensure the success of operations. I played a major role in the commission, testing, and trial completion of a new diesel electric ship, providing both ice breaking capabilities and warm weather operations. I have had the opportunity to work with countless types of equipment from manufacturers, while making informed decisions and supporting the development of various ships. I am successful at working in stressful environments and capable of accomplishing multiple tasks simultaneously. I have the ability to retain technical expertise required for effective engineering operations. I am looking forward to continuing to develop as a professional within the engineering industry.
