About Marshall Ruse

I discovered my passion for coding in my last year of my first Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences when, having a life-long interest in tech, I decided to be adventurous and check out this unrelated "Introduction to Programming" course. From those first few lessons, I was absolutely hooked. Finding myself completely engrossed in building programs - figuring out how to piece the various classes and functions together, feeling the elation at squashing each bug, and that sense of pride and accomplishment when everything just works - showed me that I needed to change course and pursue a career in software development. I completed my Bachelor of Computing three years later. Since then, I have discovered a love for web development and its endless possibilities, and have been teaching myself full-stack development in my free-time (though am currently most proficient in front end). I enjoy building beautiful responsive UI with CSS3 flexbox and grid styling of React JS and vanilla JavaScript applications, and have used Express REST APIs to connect my front ends to SQL (MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases. I am in the process of learning TypeScript and GraphQL to expand my skill set in building secure, flexible web apps.
