Background
About Marshall Scott
I am a Certified Peer Support Specialist and have worked as such the past year and a half. I’m currently looking for full time employment in addiction services. I am also in long term recovery from multiple diagnosis with over 4 and a half years, which helps me connect with others who suffer from substance use disorders. I also have a working knowledge of recovery pathways and programs. Currently I work for a non profit which has a contract with the state which presents me the opportunity to work with addiction services in a state correctional facility. In the past year I have completed every goal I had set to achieve and done while enduring approximately 5 months off for recovery after two surgeries. In the past year I have tripled the number of one on one engagements I have in a week and have been invited, continually encouraged to, and asked directly for my input for the development of treatment plans and to participate in all of Addiction Service’s team meetings. I also believe that due to my advocacy for participants to be paroled to sober living, if not returning directly home, that unless specifically asked for, we now have a interdepartmental session with addiction services and reentry to find the best placements and resources for our participants upon parole. I always speak up against stigma and feel that I have been a model representative of Voices of Hope both during work hours and even after. Aside from my work at the Northpoint facility, which is an extremely tough environment mentally and which holds its own risks, I was chosen to be given the opportunity to participate in the Harm Reduction Summit in Lexington this year and received great feedback from those in attendance, ranging from our staff, to DOC staff, and even those responsible for some of the funding for the state. I took the opportunity to speak out against the newly proposed buprenorphine regulations at the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensures public hearing, and was accepted into the Townsend and Barry Leadership Academy for their upcoming retreats and collaborative efforts to discuss a twelve month long project focusing on the future direction of Recovery in Kentucky. In the past two years I have also accumulated over 30 hours of continued education on several different topics ranging from recovery pathways, medications for opioid use disorder, motivational interviewing, trauma informed counseling, and many others.
