About Marta Hamity
The main focus and driving force of my research career has been the study of pain neurobiology. Pain is a complex, multidimensional experience that is influenced by multiple physiological and psychological factors. After several years in this field I remain amazed by how such an important protective function can morph after injury into a debilitating chronic condition that diminishes the quality of life of the individual and their family and can threaten economic stability. How the peripheral and central nervous systems adapt to injury is a “puzzle” that I wish to solve. What keeps my passion for this topic, despite its complexity, is my desire to provide better interventions to alleviate those who suffer pain.
