About Marta Wilmes

I believe wholeheartedly that we all have an innate love of learning. And that our job as learning and development professionals is to support that desire. This support has taken various forms during my working years - first as a high school English teacher, then as a project manager, next as a designer and facilitator in the corporate environment, and mostly recently in teaching people how to design and facilitate. While my role in supporting the desire to learn has taken many forms, the process has largely remained the same. First, determining what people actually need and want to learn. Then, designing learning experiences that align with those needs and that engage participants' innate desire to learn. And finally, facilitating learning experiences that center the participants' needs and expertise while creating spaces of trust, collaboration, and vulnerability. This is where the magic happens. This is why learning and development is so closely tied with retention and recruiting. These learning experiences are where we connect the most with each other. And finally, throughout the process we are careful stewards of the resources that we've been entrusted with by clearly measuring the impact of our work all the way from the learning outcomes to the behavioral and then business outcomes.
