Dr. Martha Badger, currently Director of Clinical Informatics for Behavioral Health Services (BHS) for the past five years, will move into a new role in the Director’s Office as DHHS Healthcare Informatics Officer as of Monday, June 27, 2022. Congratulations Dr. Badger on a well-deserved promotion! As we work toward the DHHS Future State, the new position of DHHS Healthcare Informatics Officer is a necessary expansion of the current BHS Director of Clinical Informatics role. This will now be a DHHS-wide position, supporting BHS as well as all other DHHS service areas. Dr. Badger’s new role will provide continuity between BHS clinical and DHHS business operations and the Information Management Systems Department (IMSD) to maximize integration and optimization of data and healthcare information systems. Dr. Badger has built an incredible team that has laid the foundation for the Future State of data and informatics that support the DHHS No Wrong Door philosophy. Dr. Badger led a complex series of enhancements for more than a year to the Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform (Netsmart's myAvatar) to help BHS clear a Systems Improvement Agreement. She has positioned BHS to resolve longstanding issues with the EHR by moving into the new “myAvatar NX” environment, which will address significant privacy and functionality concerns. Dr. Badger is a proven leader and subject matter expert on integration, adoption, and application of data and healthcare information systems across DHHS. By creating this new role, we are implementing healthcare informatics best practices, and taking a key step in operationalizing the DHHS Strategic Plan." • BHD IT & Informatics Team: Manage a 12-member team responsible for optimizing and maintaining the clinical and fiscal modules of Avatar, the electronic health record (EHR). Team members include an IT manager, system administrators, end user support specialists, report developers, business analysts, project managers, and vendor resources. • Department of Health and Human Services: Collaborate with DHHS executives and strategic planners regarding software solutions for business needs, using the software System Development Life Cycle model [Planning, Requirements Analysis, Design, Implementation, Maintenance]. • Research and Evaluation: Participate in various DHHS-wide data analytics and research projects regarding patient safety and quality improvement.
