About Martiens Prinsloo

I am a hydrogeologist with more than 25 years’ experience. While 90 % of my day-to-day activities deal with mine water related projects, I also have extensive experience in the energy, waste, resource development and linear infrastructure sectors. Experience was gained on more than 300 individual projects in more than 25 African countries, as well as the Middle East, parts of Europe, South America, and Australia. My academic qualifications include an MSc in Geohydrology from the University of the Free State as well as an MBA from the University of Cape Town. In addition to scientific work I regularly teach numerical groundwater flow and contaminant migration modelling at various leading South African universities, including the University of Johannesburg, University of the Witwatersrand, and the University of Pretoria. I also regularly serve on invitation as external examiner for Master level dissertations at the University of the Free State, and on the technical steering committee of Water Research Committee research projects. I have strong client and team relationship skills with the majority of projects coming from long-term repeat clients. A number of my client relationships stretch over 15 years or more. I am experienced in building teams and mentoring. During 2013 I founded AquaStrata Laboratories, which operated as a water quality testing laboratory. I led the laboratory from inception, through ISO17025 / SANAS accreditation and commercial operation until end of 2017 when the laboratory was sold.
