About Martin Gama

Currently Junior Data Analyst under Marketing Department of Premier America Credit Union. As my first permanent role as an analyst, I’ve grown to expand my knowledge of how to aggregate, funnel, and manipulate data via SQL Server to implement reporting into internal dashboards or ad hoc analyses via Excel, Power BI, and SQL Server Reporting Services. Furthermore, my work has also placed an emphasis on campaign tracking, product engagement analysis, and KPI tracking. My pursuit of becoming a data analyst blossomed from a last-minute entry to a data visualization competition, called the Plot-A-Thon, in my last semester at Cal State University, Channel Islands. Within this 48-hour ‘hack-a-thon’ style competition, my team and I went through the steps of data visualization using our selected medium of Excel (with a side of some Python scraping and parsing) to present an analysis to a panel of judges. We concluded the competition winning in not only the ‘Best Overall’ category, but also in ‘Best in Cleaning’ and ‘Best in Communication’, this solidified my passion for this career. Shortly after the Plot-A-Thon and conclusion of undergraduate degree in Business, I was fortunate to be selected for a Data Analytics internship within Premier America’s first cohort of interns. Throughout the three-month internship I was able to obtain valuable knowledge and mentorship on the fundamentals of data analytics while learning SQL from scratch. In interacting with multiple departments and stakeholders, I obtained knowledge as to how different business functions have different data needs. By the conclusion of my internship, I learn a variety of SQL and BI knowledge, including how to build views, paginated reports, Power BI reports, and how to aggregate, manipulate, and funnel data into various mediums. My final project was comprised of designing and building SQL view that funneled in data into a Power BI report that senior leadership and any other business units can utilize to view broad trends of deposit engagement among members grouped by their generation segments. Upon completion of my three-month internship, I was fortunate to transition into a permanent position (detailed above) as a Junior Data Analyst. In this role, I continued to expand on my knowledge on how to better leverage SQL for internal reporting, with a deep emphasis on analysis, storytelling, and designing reports that are lean and efficient. In doing so, I've contributed valuable analysis for KPI and cohort tracking, while also implementing and modifying existing reporting to run more effeciently.
