About Martin Herring

I joined Banks & Co in 1995 and was appointed equity partner in 1997. In December 2010 I became Director when the business was incorporated. In my role providing accountancy advice to businesses and as a Director of Banks and Co, I have overall responsibility for the taxation function of the practice and also the administration and financial function of our own organization. As part of my accountancy role, I manage a varied portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies ranging in turnover from £20 k to £3M. I also deal with private tax clients with considerable levels of investment income. I have always followed the financial markets and have a good awareness of investment strategies.I particularly enjoy the interaction with the owners of all businesses and working with them to understand the issues of making a business successful and profitable. Part of this work is ensuring that income can be extracted in an appropriate, tax efficient manner. I consider myself as a general practitioner, able to offer advice on the majority of issues affecting small businesses but able to recognize where specialist advice is also required. The firm has links with VAT and tax specialists where appropriate.In my spare time I am an active golfer and have been a playing member of my local club, Newbury & Crookham, since 1973.
