About Martin Sulkanen

First, a disclaimer: anything I say on LinkedIn, either by a direct post, or in response to another post, are my own opinions and in no way represent the views of my I am a physicist with over 25 years of experience solving challenging problems in remote sensing, synthetic aperture radar, radar systems analysis, electromagnetic analysis and measurement, image and spectral analysis, signal processing, x-ray, RF, plasma, and space physics. My experience features physics and engineering support for large contract R&D programs. A principal strength that my career has demonstrated has been my ability to rapidly adapt to entirely new sets of problems and to develop solutions for them. I have provided the technical leadership to conceive, pursue, and successfully complete R&D contracts. I am respected for my ability to identify the essential physics of complex problems, to find creative and effective solutions, and to clearly communicate my results to customers and peers. I work very well in either small or large teams. I am also experienced in physics, mathematics and science pedagogy. At Holy Cross College at Notre Dame I have developed and taught a two-term calculus-based sequence in physics, a two-term course in calculus, an introductory engineering mathematics course, and an interdisciplinary course on science, society and religion. I have served as a graduate student teaching assistant for the introductory undergraduate engineering physics sequence at Cornell, as well as co-instructor in a graduate cosmology course at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. I have also served as a mentor for both graduate and undergraduate research projects, and given public outreach presentations in physics and astronomy while at NASA and the University of Michigan.
