About Martin Vild

I finished my master's degree during the financial crisis and started my Ph.D. Luckily, I got employed at an R&D project that led to the creation of IDEA StatiCa Connection. My Ph.D. was focused on strengthening steel columns under load by welded plates, but rather than continuing this, I got employed by IDEA StatiCa and switched my focus to finite element analysis of steel connections. At first, my main tasks were planning of implementation of different design codes (AISC/ACI, CSA, AS, SP, IS, GB, HKG) into IDEA StatiCa Connection. That gave me a good overview of design codes worldwide. Also, I lost my blind belief in design codes and learned that they may significantly vary from reality. As our team grows, I am gradually developing my knowledge of agile development, product management, and UX design. At Brno University of Technology, I have been employed on various research projects since I started my Ph.D. studies. Recently, I have also joined the academic staff to pass on my experience to students of structural engineering. I represent the Czech Republic in ECCS TC 10 and CEN/TC 250/SC 3/WG 8 Evolution of EN 1993-1-8 – Joints and connections.
