About Marva Tutt

Dr. Marva Tutt is a transformational leader with a focus on challenging the status quo to increase student achievement. Described as courageous and tenacious, Marva accepts challenges as opportunities for improvement with the tenacity to plan, do, check, and act. Over her career in education, Marva has increased student achievement schools through data-driven instruction and redesigning professional development to include research-based practices that enhance student engagement with an ultimate goal of increased student achievement. At Langford Middle School, the CCRPI score increased by 5 points, reaching the highest score since the creation of CCRPI in Georgia. The number of students receiving suspension decreased using the PBIS program, which focuses on incentives and supports. She increased the school climate rating by one star for 3 of 5 stars. Additionally, student achievement scores increased, which helped close the achievement gap for minority students. Howard Road Academy's reading and math scores increased over 3 percentage points at the elementary school and over 10 percentage points at the middle school. Additionally, Howard Road Academy moved from Tier 3 to Tier 2 on the DC Public Charter School's rigorous Performance Management Framework. While leading Jenkins-White, student achievement scores in reading increased over 15 percentage points over a 3 year period. Additionally, Jenkins-White received greatest gains in reading for 3rd grade and the Governor's Award for Greatest Gains in Reading for two consecutive years. Known by colleagues as a life-long learner, Marva has participated in several leadership programs including Leadership Augusta, America's Leaders of Change, SUPES Academy, Greater Leadership Washington's Executive Leadership Program, NAESP's National Principal Mentor Certification and Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) Base Camp for Leaders.
