Background

About Mary Doherty

I am presently a Spanish teacher of students aged 12-14 and have previously taught ages 3-15. I am also a website content developer, and author and illustrator of children Spanish language books. I advocate for a robust curriculum that challenges the middle school student and trains them to take responsibility for their learning by effectively coordinating and communicating standards based grading and AAPPL Novice and Intermediate level criteria so that the student feels more empowered to take ownership of their outcomes and to see their path to Biliteracy and beyond. My own multilingualism was the reason I was able to work in international business capacities for organizations like Eximbank, Interac, Bostonia Inc. BT France, Plan International, etc. I communicate to my students as I did my own children how multilingualism positions them to pursue a more global citizenry and how it can enhance their lives. I am considered to be a highly effective, creative, engaging, and energetic teacher. I love teaching Spanish and share my enthusiasm by creating a learning environment that helps develop a sense of curiosity, courage, and accomplishment. I consider myself to be a coach and give my students the tools and emotional support when needed to apply their best selves, remain inspired and to continue their efforts in and beyond their Spanish classroom. Please contact me if you would like to learn more.
