About Masayoshi Suda
Masayoshi Suda, M.D, Ph.D, is a physician-scientist specializing in aging and cellular senescence in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on senolytic therapy—targeted elimination of senescent cells. His research centers on p16-positive senescent cells, particularly endothelial cells, and the development of senolytic strategies to treat metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes and obesity, as well as cardiovascular disease. Recently, he found a novel molecule, GPNMB, which is highly expressed in senescent cells. We developed a vaccine targeting GPNMB and this vaccine can eliminate senescent cells with the improvement of age-related diseases (Nat. Aging (2021) and Sci. Rep.(2022).). From 2021, he has been working on the biology of senescent cells and the development of therapy targeting senescent cells, especially in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, with Dr. Kirkland at the Mayo Clinic.
