About Masha Wickramasinghe

Capitalizing on my past work experiences as a Congressional intern, journalist and a case manager for the Supervised Release Program New York, I am seeking employment in the criminal justice field. I am a Master of Libral Arts degree candidate at John Jay College in Criminal Justice with a focus on Antiterrorism and transnational crime. I come from a strong writing and oral communication background and have maintained an above 3.5 GPA throughout a well balanced program of study, which was heavily focused on research and analytical skills. My prior work experience as a journalist allowed me to see firsthand the issues that are facing the community. It was a part of my daily routine to cultivate relationships with the community to obtain information, identify and follow up on leads, analyze relevancy, quickly adapting to changing circumstances, while understanding personal stories of individuals into the larger context of issues that were happening in the community. As a SRP case manager, I learned much about the NY criminal justice system, while gaining first hand experience in managing a large case load while balancing court mandates and compliance with client needs. I believe it is my ability to empathize, non-judgemental professional conduct, problem solving skills including the ability to recognize non-obvious patterns, that would make me a valuable asset as a criminologist/crime analyst.
