Background
About Massih Forootan
I am a data analyst with a background in agricultural biotechnology. My career has evolved from being a research scientist and plant geneticist to a data analyst, in response to changes in technological demands. My education as an agricultural scientist provided me with unique experience in experimental design and research methodologies. During my career as a scientist and instructor, I planned, implemented, and led research projects, established a laboratory unit, and supervised research students and projects. Meanwhile, the increasing need for statistical programming and data analysis in scientific research, combined with my longstanding interest in coding, motivated my transition into data analytics. This shift allowed me to exploit my scientific background in new technologies and methodologies in data science. As a data analyst, I have implemented projects with two primary themes- Transforming raw data into actionable metrics by designing data mining and processing pipelines. I have created interactive dashboards featuring key metrics and visualizations to facilitate data-driven decision-making- Designing automated data cleaning and quality control pipelines to support models and data portals. I have developed automated methodologies for maintaining large-scale, unstructured data in genomic data commons. My coding portfolio is available at https://mforootan.github.io/ My research background covers two main areas, focusing on both crops and endangered plant species- Development of DNA fingerprinting techniques for characterizing crop cultivars and exploring biodiversity- Optimization of controlled environments for plant conservation and the study of cellular and molecular aspects of plant growth, for means of preserving biodiversity and understanding aspects of plant physiology. My selected publications are available at Throughout my career, I taught introductory statistics and experimental designs, counseled students on their educational and career goals, and supervised research projects. I also have a personal interest in history and linguistics, which contributes to my interest in drawing connections across diverse fields of knowledge: MBTI: INPT : DISC: Clarity Views and opinions expressed here are my perspectives and do not reflect those of my affiliated entities.
