About Massimo Spina

I work at the intersection of frontier science, engineering reality, and techno-economic strategy, with a focus on how emerging technologies evolve from research into deployable industry and national capabilities.I am currently an Emerging Technology Architect at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), where I contribute to strategic foresight and long-term planning across advanced technology domains, working closely with academia, industry, and the broader innovation ecosystem.Over the past 15 years, I have built a career bridging applied research, sustainable engineering, and technology commercialisation. My experience spans technical–commercial due diligence, techno-economic modelling, IP and systems strategy, and advising senior leadership on complex decisions in areas such as energy, water, and other low-carbon technologies.More recently, my work has increasingly focused on quantum technologies—spanning quantum computing, communications, post-quantum cryptography, and quantum-safe systems. I am particularly interested in examining quantum not only through technical performance, but through system-level constraints, cost structures, operational readiness, and adoption pathways.I am particularly interested in how emerging technologies move from promise to capability, and why many fail at that transition. My work sits at the boundary between research, strategy, and implementation, engaging with researchers, industry leaders, startups, and policymakers on long-term technology decisions under uncertainty.
