About Mathew Shawana

Mathew Shawana is a professional, Namibian-based consulting geologist with a broad spectrum of geoscience expertise at a supervisory level in exploration project management, mining (underground and open-pit mining), groundwater research, geotechnical evaluations, due diligence, water borehole drilling supervision, GIS & remote sensing, geo-database management and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs). He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Geology (Single Major), obtained at the University of Namibia (UNAM) in 2015. Awarded as the best Mineralogy student at the aforesaid high learning institution in 2013, he is dedicated towards executing JORC-compliant geological work in accordance to highest, globally-acclaimed safety measures, as well as being a valuable growth factor in exploration and mining projects in SADC, Africa and the entire world at large. Sensu stricto, Mathew has over 8 years of experience in prospecting for uranium, Rare Earth Elements (REEs), tantalum, lithium (spodumene, lepidolite and petalite) and base metal deposits for copper (Sediment-hosted, Mississippi Valley Types, Supergene Enrichments, etc.) Lead (Pb), Zinc (Zn) and their associated metals i.e. gold (Au) and silver (Ag). Various geological techniques used during these exploration and mining projects are as follows: detailed geological mapping, geophysical mapping (radiometric & aeromagnetic surveys), lithological sampling for geochemical and petrographic analyses, core logging: geological & geotechnical, core splitting, core sampling, chip logging, geochemical analyses (pXRF, Fire assays & ICP-MS), exploration database management, GIS (Geosoft, ArcGIS, QGIS, Envi, LogChief & Surfer), marketing mineral licenses/tenements, JORC-compliant geological reporting, QAQC procedures, designing and optimizing mine dewatering plans, performing grade control, drilling supervision for water boreholes (rural & urban water supply projects), amoungst others. Input in underground and open-pit mining, hydrogeological research and geotechnical appraisals significantly constitute his geological exposure.
