About Mathew Tucker

I am the curriculum manager for the simulation department at South Shields Marine School. My main responsibility is for the running and quality of courses which fall under me, to ensure they meet the requirements of the awarding body and follow our ISO system. I liaise with senior management, stake holders and clients on a daily basis to achieve high standards. I am qualified merchant navy deck officer, and a qualified AB. Started working with P&O Nedlloyd in 1997 as a trainee seaman before moving to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary as a fully qualified AB. Decided to further my career and obtained OOW certificate in 2010 and started working for Carnival UK. I am also involved with IAMI and am an exam manager for the Yacht exams at master level, ensuring that all exam requests are delivered on time and following IAMI quality procedures. A fully qualified RYA senior dinghy instructor and chief instructor at RMB Chivenor, North Devon. Hold RYA powerboat level 2 and safety boat qualifications. Currently a Chief Petty Officer with the sea cadets at South Shields unit, and am their boats officer. I ensure that a sound boating programme is made up and so that all cadets get the best boating opportunities that they can. I also over see the maintenance and upkeep of the units boating craft. Currently leading the team in becoming an RYA training centre. I also managed to get the unit accredited with British Rowing, meaning that we can now offer the British Rowing 'explore rowing' qualifications. An excellent team player and capable of working on own initiative. Has completed various leadership course both company specific as well as industry required. Fully qualified teacher gaining Certificate in Education and educated to degree level, completing my BSc in Nautical Studies with a pass of 2:1
