About Mathew Yonks

I am a registered nurse currently employed at Good Samaritan Hospital with a strong foundation in both patient care and population health. My previous clinical rotations have included pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, critical care at South Shore University Hospital, and a Med-Surg/Telemetry capstone where I cared for patients with complex medical and post-operative needs. I currently also work with the Intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) population, aiming to improve every day lives. In addition to my nursing training, I worked as a New York State Public Health Fellow at the Suffolk County Arthropod-Borne Disease Lab. In this role, I conducted field and laboratory surveillance of ticks and mosquitoes, analyzed data to identify emerging disease trends, and participated in public health outreach to promote community prevention. This experience sharpened my skills in data-driven decision making, infection prevention, and health education—skills I now integrate into my approach to clinical nursing practice. With this blend of acute care training, public health expertise, and a commitment to evidence-based practice, I am eager to begin my nursing career in a hospital setting where I can provide empathetic, patient-centered care while also supporting safety, quality, and improved health outcomes.
