About Mathijs Mientjes

I am currently Phd student in Applied Physics at the University of Technology Eindhoven, specializing in the synthesis of materials for quantum computation in the Erik Bakkers group. My research focuses on experimental techniques, particularly in cleanroom environments, where I work on the growth of PbSnTe nanowires using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE). I am passionate about physics and the potential impact that research can have on technology and society.Throughout my PhD, I have worked to improve nanowire yield and reduce Sn-vacancies by optimizing growth parameters. Additionally, I developed a numerical model to better understand and control the growth mechanisms of PbSnTe nanowires, providing valuable insights to enhance the fabrication of quantum devices. I enjoy the challenge of designing experiments, analyzing data, and using those findings to drive progress in the field. During my studies, I was actively involved in extracurricular activities that have helped me develop leadership and communication skills. I served on the Program Committee of Applied Physics for three years and was of the Outreach Team. I also completed a year-long board position with the study association for Applied Physics, SVTN "J.D. van der Waals," where I handled responsibilities related to External Affairs and Educational Affairs.Outside of academia, I enjoy playing sports and listening to music, which helps me maintain a balanced and energized lifestyle. I consider myself an ambitious and driven individual, always looking for opportunities to grow both personally and professionally while leaving a positive impact on the world around me.
