About Matt Callahan

Hi! I’m Matt Callahan. I’m a sound designer based in Southern California. From an early age, I was obsessed with games. My parents joke that my first word was “Start” as in “Press Start.” Once I played and heard the audio of Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil, I was hooked for life. Having been forced to learn a musical instrument in the 7th grade, I quickly became captivated by sound and music. I only later thought of intersecting my two passions together. I graduated from UC Riverside with a Bachelor’s of Music and went on to receive a Master’s of Music from Claremont Graduate University. My first career was in Classical music. I taught and conducted ensembles at community colleges and taught music students inside of a men’s prison. I enjoyed my experiences as a teacher, but my desire to get involved with game audio and sound design became too strong to ignore. I knew I wanted work with passionate people and develop games alongside a creative team. This led me to make the jump in my career to game development and game audio. Having never been formally trained in a DAW, sound design, or audio implementation, I sought to learn, practice and create as much as possible on my own and through outreach to the welcoming game audio community. I’m very excited to work with a passionate team of designers and developers creating something new! Outside of games and game audio, I enjoy baseball and basketball as well as tabletop games. I also love action movies and reading Stephen King.
