About Matt Levinstein

Matt Levinstein is a professional musician, currently based in Boston, MA. He is an experienced music director, pianist, arranger/orchestrator, and educator. Currently, Matt is studying at Berklee College of Music, where he is a professional music major, with concentrations conducting (musical theater track), arranging, and music education. At Berklee, Matt has been studying conducting, music direction, theater piano, and vocal coaching under Broadway Music Director Eric Stern, and studied jazz piano under Shinichi Otsu. During the Spring 2021 semester, He served as the pianist for Berklee’s Musical Theater Orchestra under Yulia Musayelyan. Matt also studies Arranging/Orchestration across many genres of music, but mainly focused on musical theater orchestration Matt just wrapped up a run as the Music Director and Piano/Conductor of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown with Emerson College's Musical Theater Society. Over the course of 5-Weeks, Matt worked closely with the team, cast, and orchestra to bring this entirely student run production to life. Previously, Matt was the Music Director and Keys II/Conductor of Matilda The Musical at Open Fields Theater. In this role, he had the opportunity to work with a cast between the ages of 7-18, and a 11-piece orchestra of professional musicians. Matt loves finding ways of combining his passion for musical theater with his passion for education, like working as the MD for session 2 of Brave Arts Theater Workshop. During one week at Brave Arts, Matt helped put together a 30 song concert mixing musical theater, pop, and rock music with a group of over 50 students, led a small combo band, and co-designed sound. Aside from music direction, he has assumed many other roles in the theater as keyboardist, keyboard programmer, drummer/percussionist, rehearsal pianist, and sound board operator. Matt is proficient in using Logic Pro X, Finale, and MainStage 3. Outside of theater, Matt is an experienced pianist and percussionist for many ensembles such as choirs, churches, orchestras, jazz bands, and pop groups. Matt is available for freelance work in keyboard programming, arranging/orchestrating, and for private lessons on a variety of insturments/specialties.
