About Matt Reichstein

Everybody has a favorite artist, song or album, or music-inspired memory. As SVP, Head of M&A and Business Integration at Virgin Music Group (VMG), I’m privileged to be a part of an executive team that partners with music entrepreneurs in providing global services and technology that convert creativity into shared success. VMG is an independently operating business within Universal Music Group that provides artist and label services to independent entrepreneurs and enables UMG to participate in a growing sector with higher representation in high-potential markets. At VMG, my transactional and operational leadership includes working closely with members of the company’s executive team to help steward responsible and sustainable growth. Examples include executing and integrating transformational M&A transactions, managing music IP acquisitions and overseeing the operations of Chord Music Partners with our partners at Dundee Partners. Prior to VMG, I was an SVP of Business and Legal Affairs at UMG where I was globally responsible for the negotiation and execution of a vast array of corporate transactions. Highlights of my tenure at UMG were overseeing the company’s multi-year transition from a private subsidiary to a public company, including working with a shareholder on sales of approximately 30% of equity to new investors and the ensuing carve-out, as well as UMG’s investment into Chord Music Partners. I began my career as a corporate associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where I negotiated complex transactions across industries ranging from media, food, and technology to pharma, banking, and energy infrastructure. Transactions represented more than $17 billion in deal value and spanned M&A, private equity, joint venture, IPO, and debt capital markets and bank financings. Along the way, I’ve served on corporate and nonprofit boards, including entities of Chord Music Partners, INgrooves and Universal Music Group’s All Together Now Foundation—a 501(c)3 organization I’m proud to have helped co-found. The foundation’s mission includes priorities such as food security, social justice, education, voting rights, and the environment. Outside the office, I enjoy cooking, golf, and tennis, and having fun with family and friends.
