About Matt Roush

I have been a reporter, editor, writer and news photographer since 1978. My early positions involved basic community journalism—city commissions, township boards, school boards, etc. I won several AP and UPI awards for this work. Later, I covered complex legal and land-use issues, and became a business reporter in 1987, covering banking, accounting, retailing, the healthcare industry, and high tech. I started covering the Internet in 1994, and became a full time tech writer in 1998 for Crain's Detroit Business, where I worked until 2001. From 2001-2013, I covered high tech for WWJ Newsradio 950, the all-news radio station in Detroit, and its website. I also produced a five-day-a-week email newsletter called The Great Lakes IT Report. I became Director of Communications and Public Relations for the Engineering Society of Detroit, a nonprofit professional association, in 2014. In 2016, I became Director of Media Relations and Managing Editor of the University News Bureau at Lawrence Technological University, a university in suburban Detroit that is world-renowned for its engineering, architecture, science, and business programs. LTU outsourced its marketing and public affairs functions to Yellow Flag in 2022, and so I moved there. I have been involved in Web content creation since and have created a social media community with large followings on major social media sites. I have also been involved in many sales presentations. For Yellow Flag, I contribute content to many LTU publications, websites, and social media accounts, manage a tech news blog, TechCentury.com, for ESD and LTU. I can translate complex technical, academic, and scientific information into readable, engaging English, and do it quickly, on deadline. I'm good at juggling multiple tasks and news reports at once. I'm a good photographer and an accomplished public speaker with good presentation skills. I'm also a veteran voice talent with skills in news and advertising. I also have experience as a public address announcer for sports events - football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, and volleyball - at the collegiate and high school level.
