About Matt Schroeder

Matt Schroeder represents major insurance companies in connection with significant exposure claims that pose extreme risk of loss to the company. He not only advises insurance companies on the policy coverage issues and disputes at hand, but also on preventive measures to avoid similar disputes and mitigate risks in the future. Matt’s practice is primarily focused on coverage issues related to environmental risk policies, but his experience includes counseling insurance companies on a wide variety of insurance policies and risks, including commercial general liability, workers compensation and reinsurance. A unique aspect of Matt’s practice is the pursuit of subrogation recoveries under CERCLA on insurance companies’ behalves, seeking redress from other potentially responsible parties who may have caused or otherwise contributed to the environmental contamination. Some of his recent subrogation lawsuits have included claims against the U.S. government for its role in contaminating munitions sites. Matt also has an extensive commercial litigation practice, representing companies in business disputes involving breach of contract and various business law torts, including fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and tortious interference. He also pursues and defends individual directors, officers, and other employees for and against breach of fiduciary duty claims. Having a truly national practice, Matt practices in state and federal courts from New York and New Jersey through the Midwest to California. He also handles international and U.S. arbitrations.
