About Matt Sowerby

As Youth Programmes Lead - Europe at The Resilience Project, I deliver programmes at the intersection of climate justice and mental health. I also look after our online community platform, helping other young changemakers discover their peace, their power, and their people. As a member of the National Trust's Regional Advisory Group (North England), I advise on climate action and sit on the North England Climate Action Steering Group. As the Director of Kirkby Lonsdale Poetry Festival, I design innovative and engaging literary events in one of the UK's most stunning towns. Some people don't think poetry is for them — we're here to prove them wrong. As a freelance writer, I am the winner of the international Nature Chronicles Prize (2024). I've worked with clients including the UN, the British Library, and NBC Universal. I won both the National Youth Poetry Slam (SLAMbassadors 2018) and National University Poetry Slam (Uni-Slam 2023) and have performed on BBC Radio 3 and in the Houses of Parliament. In 2023, I completed a Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences BA (Class I), Majoring in both Literature and Sustainability. This included a Year Abroad at University College Utrecht in the Netherlands. My Dissertation explored greenwashing within the Natural History Museum.
