I have an almost uncanny ability to quickly learn new software and in so doing, determine its usefulness to me and my team. After decades of computer troubleshooting, quickly getting to the crux of a problem is second nature to me, even when the problem lies outside of a computer. I like to drill into a particular technical issue to determine the root cause, and then distill the back-and-forth of months-long email strings into a single, concise summary. I think my engineering background is perhaps my most important strength in that at its core engineering is a recursive loop of strategic planning and data analytics with the ultimate goal of solving a complex problem by breaking it down into manageable pieces. I am a skilled instructor who has the patience and people skills to pass on my knowledge to others without becoming overbearing or boring. Because my leadership skills are rooted in the simple concept of leading by example, I am able to inspire those around me to great success. I am an excellent leader because I have such an eclectic work history, here is a list of jobs from which I draw experience and knowledge: cashier, valet, photographer, waiter, lifeguard, umpire, drafter, plumber, painter, programmer, bartender, contractor, infantryman, pool man, machine-operator, engineer, webmaster, technician and lets not forget dad and husband. I think the most important maxim I have regarding management, I get from my athletic background. As a team manager, it is more important to pair the correct game plan and coaching strategy to the specific set of individuals, than it is to have a "perfect plan" in place. Since my time as a writing tutor in high school, I have always gravitated towards writing tasks. I have an exceptional technical writing ability which helps my written communications - whether managing a project or team - be clear and concise. Also, my experience as a drafter and visual designer makes me good at generating visual aids, like flowcharts, when producing business analyses and proposals/demonstrations. I have a coder's spirit, but because of my extensive non-coding skills and abilities, I have ended up in more stakeholder and/or client-facing roles. However, as a web developer for the last 20+ years, I have touched just about every platform/language that there is in this field.
