About Matthaios Spanos

Mattheos Spanos curently works in the Research and Innovation Projects Unit after the organisational restructuring implemented by the RPF (RIF) in July 2017. From December 2014 was transferred to the National Research Programmes Sector and was Head of the Research Infrastructures and Research Human Potential Unit up to June 2017. From July 2013 until November 2014 he worked at the European Research Programmes and International Collaboration Sector. He was Head of Team and was appointed as the National Contact Point (NCP) for:(a) the European Research Council (ERC) and (b) the HORIZON 2020 NMBP Programme as well as Substitute Programme Committee Member for the NMBP Programme. From September 2007 until June 2013 he was Head of Team managing the National Research Programmes for Young Researchers (Postdoctoral and PhD Candidates), the Annual Research and Innovation Competitions for Schools and University Students as well as the Annual Researcher Award. He has served in different posts during the last thirteen years of his employment in RPF and has been involved in several EU projects. He was the Coordinator of the Researchers’ Night 2008 and 2012 Events in Cyprus (“RECARE” and "EuReCy" Projects) and is Member of the Science in Society Programme Committee of the EU 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. He represented RPF in various National Steering Committees (e.g. Lisbon Strategy, Regional Development Structural Funds, Innovation and Incubators etc.). In December 2004 he attended a course in "Research Project Management" in Cranfield University, UK. During his employment in the Cyprus Institute of Technology he was trained in Technology Audits and Innovation Management and was involved in the creation and operation of the Hephaestus Innovation Relay Centre. He has work experience in the Industry (Retail and Dairy Manufacturing) and in Government (Statistical Survey Department and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism).
