About Matthew Allsopp

For as long as I can remember I always wanted to know how things worked. My parents told me when Inwas five years old I took the back off the television because 'it needed maintenance', but due to my lack of EHS knowledge I neglected to unplug or even turn the TV off! Unsurprisingly I followed an engineering path and eventually went into work as a testing operator at Johnson Matthey, in their Clean Air sector. My natural curiosity and grasp of how things worked helped me to develop into an engineer and eventually a subject matter expert as I supported the business to grow its testing ability in both R&D and end of line QC. Over that time I traveled globally trouble shooting problems, leading installation projects and designing test laboratories. It was a dream come true. Over time I graduated from doing to leading others to do. I also moved into defing global best practice and policy for testing, whilst coaching others to build capability across 11 labs. More recently my need to understand how things work and make them better led me to an apprenticeship in continue improvement. In 2025 I achieved my Lean 6-sigma black belt and supported JM Clean Air with improving efficiency within the R&D department. It also led me better understand how people work and how I can support them with developing themselves. I am truly grateful for the opportunities I've been given and I believe I've made the best of those opportunities, through my curiosity, honesty and willingness to find the solution where everyone wins.
